Harold Morioka

Harold Morioka ran his first competitive race at age 29. He took some time off from competing in his late 30’s. After turning 40, he started competing in the Masters category. He continued to compete in the provincial open championships until age 52. From age 53-55 he stopped running due to sore knees. He had three knee operations (at age 54, 55, and 57). He is healthy now and in February 2003 he turned 60. Most recently (March, 2003) he competed in the USA National Masters Track and Field Championships in Boston, where he bettered two existing World Records in the 60, 400 and 800 meters. He will be competing in the World Masters Championships in Puerto Rico in July 2003.


1972Age 29. Competed in his first race. It was the 100 meters at the SFU Invitational T&F meet, and the only race he ran all year.
1973: Age
Age 30. BC Open Champion in the 100 meters and 200 meters.
1974-1978: Age 31-35. Won several provincial championships medals and competed on several BC provincial track and field teams. Qualified for and competed in the Canadian indoor and outdoor track and field championships and the Commonwealth Games trials.
1979: Age 36. Represented BC at the Western Canada Summer Games.
1980-1982: Age 37-39. Did not compete.
1983-(present):Age 40+. Competed as a Masters Runner for the first time.
Won six Masters World Championships.
Set nine Masters World Records in Track & Field.
